Event Details

Hosted by the People & Culture Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai, this Roundtable will bring together senior professionals and business leaders to explore a deceptively simple question: when performance needs to improve, should organisations invest first in their people or in the system around them?

This session will see two experts take deliberately contrasting positions. One will make the case for investing in individual capability, skills, behaviours and leadership; the other will argue that organisations too often try to solve through people development what are fundamentally problems of structure, processes, incentives, roles or management practices.

Following the dialogue, participants will join the discussion, bringing their own experience and perspectives to examine where organisations commonly misdiagnose performance problems, how investment choices are made, and what it takes to identify the real constraint.

The goal of the session is to leave with sharper questions, useful perspectives and practical insights for making better performance investments.

Admission includes tea, coffee and croissants.

<People & Culture Roundtable> is an invitation-only event series for HR and organisational leaders to discuss relevant issues, challenges, and opportunities in the fields of organisational performance, human resources, leadership, and talent management.

Seats are limited, and given the nature of these roundtable discussions, registrations will require confirmation and approval.
