The 2024 National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), together known as ‘Two Sessions (Lianghui)’, came to conclusion early this week.

BritCham Shanghai is hosting this exclusive session for our members to speed up on the key outcomes of 2024 Two Sessions, and how they will impact foreign businesses operating in China.

Jing Liu

Managing Director, Chief Economist, Greater China, HSBC Global Research

Jing Liu joined HSBC in February 2021 and is Chief Economist for Greater China. Previously, she worked as a senior economist at the Bank for International Settlements, where she focused on mainland China macro and financial system research. Prior to this, she worked as a senior manager in the financial stability surveillance division at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, mainly covering mainland China. Jing holds a PhD in economics from Cornell University, an MA in economics from the University of Kansas, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in management from Xi’an Jiaotong University.

Mark Harrison

Partner, KPMG

Mark began his career in London where he spent 5 years working first in audit and then specialising in cross-border transactions across Europe for private equity clients. He subsequently worked in our Paris office for over four years focusing on cross-border engagements, including 6 months stationed in Chicago

In 2007, Mark transferred to our Shanghai office where he advises multi-national clients on transactions in China. He leads our MNC Deal Advisory team and has advised on over 300 transactions during 16 years based in China

Mark speaks English and French fluently, and is conversational in Mandarin Chinese

Thomas Hale

Shanghai Correspondent, Financial Times

Thomas Hale is the FT’s Shanghai Correspondent and focuses on China’s economy, financial system and consumer industries. He has been at the FT for ten years, mainly in London, covering areas ranging from capital markets to education. Before arriving in Shanghai, he was based in Hong Kong for two years and has also worked as a reporter for the FT in Madrid. In 2018, he was a journalist in residence at the Booth School at the University of Chicago, and has a degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford.
