The Future of Education in the Light of AI

Currently, Dr. Lockstrom is Executive Director of International Institute of Operations Management, Shanghai, China. Dr. Lockstrom received his BSc/MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management at Chalmers University of Technology and his PhD in Operations Management from European Business School, Germany. He has previously taught graduate courses at European Business School, Moscow State University, Tongji University and MBA courses at CEIBS, Webster University among others. He’s the author of the best seller “The Operations Management Bible” and has published more than 50 academic and practice-oriented papers, cases and book chapters, and made more than 60 conference appearances. Dr. Lockstrom has more than two decades of consulting experience working with several dozen Fortune 500 companies.

Charlie Reis is an Associate Professor and Director of the Educational Development Unit at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), programme director of XJTLU’s Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, and founder of the China-based Association for Partnership in Educational Development (CAPED). He is also the lead for XJTLU’s Artificial Intelligence Working Group.

His primary area of research is the incorporation of classical Chinese knowledge into contemporary learning and teaching. Other areas of focus are: transnational education, curriculum design, expertise and learning and teaching, motivation and engagement, online and hybrid learning, academic identity, and leadership. Recent publications include: ‘Using H5P to Enrich Online Learning Engagement in a Postgraduate Certificate Programme’ in Overcoming Challenges in Online Learning, ‘Zhuangzi and the Phenomenology of Expertise: Implications for educators’ in Developing Expertise for Teaching in Higher Education and ‘SOTL Enquiries in Four Disciplines: unlocking the Potential of Interdisciplinary Approaches and Methodologies’ in Asian Journal of the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching.

Yaroslav Artsishevsky is an experienced and dedicated STEAM educator. He has been successfully teaching science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics concepts to children aged 5-10 years old for over 5 years. Currently, he serves as a Science and Engineering Teacher at WOW Kids and as a Design and Technology Teacher at Dingwen Academy Hangzhou. He develops makerspace-style curricula to nurture creative confidence and critical thinking skills in students. He adapts various AI tools to provide more personalized and interactive learning paths.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Artsishevsky had a background in teaching technology-infused STEAM lessons at various schools in Shanghai and Hangzhou, including Yungu International School Hangzhou and SMIC Private School Shanghai. He is experienced in planning engaging, hands-on lesson plans and experimenting with the latest techniques to foster curiosity and problem-solving abilities in students.

Mr. Artsishevsky holds a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Intercultural Communication, as well as a master’s degree in Information Technologies and Control. He is fluent in English and Russian and proficient in Mandarin Chinese. He wrote and published a book about STEAM education practices tailored for young Chinese learners. His published book shares innovative methods to make science education impactful and enjoyable for children.

With his diverse background in language instruction, communication, and intercultural exchange, Mr. Artsishevsky builds strong connections with his students. Douglas Fenech is the son of wonderful parents, a partner to his incredible life companion, and a father to his adorable daughter. He’s also a passionate educator at Shanghai Pinghe School and ardent advocate for inquiry and project-based learning (IBL and PBL), envisions a transformative role for artificial intelligence in education. By integrating AI into IBL and PBL, he envisions a future where AI empowers students to take ownership of their learning, fostering a lifelong love of exploration and discovery. AI’s potential to personalize learning paths, provide real-time feedback, and suggest relevant resources will create an engaging and effective learning environment for all students. Douglas recognizes the ethical considerations of AI integration and advocates for a responsible approach that safeguards student privacy and ensures equitable access. He envisions AI as a tool to augment the teaching profession, allowing educators to focus on nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and ethical AI usage, ultimately transforming the educational landscape for the better.

Benjamin Pearce is a passionate and energetic teacher with over 15 years of teaching experience in the US and China. He has taught a wide range of subjects and programs including IB, writing, magic, SSAT preparation, English Language Arts, and logic. He also has several years’ experience in curriculum and textbook design. He currently teaches at Blueprint, a training center specializing in test preparation, ELA, and college application mentorship. His teaching philosophy centers around finding fun and engaging ways to inspire students to succeed academically, discover their own interests, and grow. Since 2019, Benjamin has been deeply involved with AI. He co-founded the AI startup ‘Taskit’ and served as the Creative Director and lead prompt engineer. He engages daily with AI tools, stays current with AI developments, and has played roles in several AI events in 2023, including organizing and presenting. Passionate about the future of AI in education, Benjamin has been training educators, administrators, and students in ethical and responsible AI usage, as well as developing his own AI tools to assist teachers and students alike. In his free time, he enjoys reading, learning programming, exploring VR and AI technologies, and spending time with his French Bulldog, Appa.
