Following a rigorous selection process by the judging panel, finalists of the 2025 Sustainability & Innovation Awards were announced on 26 March 2025 in Shanghai.
Organised by the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai (BritCham Shanghai), the third edition of this national awards programme, formerly named ESG China Awards, brings together a world-class panel of industry experts as part of a high-profile platform to recognise excellence in local and international organisations, NGO’s, and individuals who are at the forefront of China-based sustainable practices.
This year, the awards received a total of 143 submissions from businesses, organisations, NGO’s and individual leaders – of which, 46 outstanding applications have been selected as finalists.
Chair of the Sustainability & Innovation Awards 2025, Board Member of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Dr. Lu Jian Zhong, emphasised the Awards’ expanding reach, showcasing a growing number of participants, diverse business sectors, broader geographic representation, and outstanding sustainability practices:
“This year, we received a total of 143 applications – approximately 40% from foreign companies with outstanding operations in China, and the other 60% from excellent, forward-thinking domestic enterprises.
This year also displays an extraordinary surge in the diversity of participants, in terms of organisation sizes and origin industries represented. The applicant pool spans more than 20 cities across China and encompasses organisations headquartered in 11 countries worldwide.
We’re also delighted to see the growing number of local enterprises embracing ESG practices and showcasing China’s talent, resources, ingenuity and response to the global call for sustainability and innovation. It is also impressive to see international organisations developing these practices and adapting them to local conditions.”
Vice Chair of BritCham Shanghai, President, Greater China, Smiths Group, Ted Wan, highlighted the Chamber’s ongoing commitment of promoting best practices of sustainability and ESG with wider business community:
“ESG continues to be a key focus of our Chamber. We are committed to providing a platform from which to recognise and advance sustainable practices and responsible business through peer support and the sharing of knowledge and resources to address key issues. Such initiatives are empowered through and by our member organisations – as well as others in the wider business community.”
