BritCham Shanghai and members attend online workshop on Data Security Law and Cyber Security Law

Key speaker from the Shanghai Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission (上海市委网信办) made an introduction to the city’s cyber data security work, including:

• Issuing relevant guidance and guidelines;
• The Shanghai Data Security Committee will be established to strengthen special governance of data security;
• Promoting data exit security assessment and car data security management and reporting in an orderly manner; and
• The development of a plan for building a cyber security industry in Shanghai

Key speaker from Shanghai Information Security Testing Evaluation and Certification Center (上海市信息安全测评认证中心 – SHTEC) introduced policies, regulations and work ideas of data security and personal information protection. Detailed sharing covered: 

• Data Security Policy briefing
• Work ideas for Data Security 
• Data Classification and Critical Data Catalogue
• Protection of Personal Information
• Data Security Assessment

During the Q&A session, on behalf of BritCham Shanghai members, Deputy Executive Director, Janet Jiang, asked questions in regard to

• Whether there is a timeline for publishing the Catalogues of Important Data (各行各业重要数据目录); 
• How can foreign businesses confirm whether they are handling important data; 
• Whether there is a clear list of Critical Information Infrastructures (CII) (关键信息基础设施) and their operators; how can foreign businesses know if they are on the list of CII, etc?
