On the afternoon of 6 November, BritCham Shanghai had the honour of hosting a roundtable meeting at the Chamber office featuring Adam Williams, Chief Executive and Comptroller General for the Intellectual Property Office (IPO).
This event was part of the Chamber’s Global Visionary series, dedicated to fostering robust business connections, providing access to global business insights, and facilitating meaningful interactions among our members and visiting senior management/VIPs from around the world. The occasion presented a unique opportunity for members to directly engage with influential leaders from multinational corporations, exploring potential avenues for collaborative growth and mutual benefit.
The gathering commenced with a warm welcome from Stuart Dunn, the Executive Director of BritCham Shanghai, who extended his greetings to all the attendees. Samuel Stone, IP Attaché of the British Embassy Beijing, moderated the roundtable discussion.
During the roundtable discussion, Mr. Adam provided an overview of the IP environment and enforcement. Representatives from diverse industries then discussed various IP challenges, covering issues such as the impact of copycat products, cross-border enforcement, foreign use evidence in GACC’s IP recordal systems, challenges in proving infringement and copyright ownership, concerns about managing biological product licenses, experiences with Business-Friendly Trademark and Patent regimes, and awareness of government incentives for trademark and patent applications in different regions.
The roundtable offered a unique opportunity for member companies to engage in knowledge sharing, collaboration, and informed decision-making when addressing a variety of intellectual property challenges across industries.
Among the esteemed attendees were representatives from Diversitech Manufacturing, Domino, Genus, IMI Critical Engineering, Modern Water, S.B. Submarine Systems, Silverstream Technologies, Diageo, and Springer Nature.
