British Business in China: Position Paper 2022 Launched

31 May 2022

Today, 31 May, marks the launch of the British Business in China: Position Paper 2022. The paper is BritCham’s flagship publication, amplifying the voices of British companies across Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong and Southwest China as we raise the regulatory barriers and recommendations for market reform.

Key Recommendations

The British chambers of commerce in China recommend steps be taken to achieving an inclusive business environment and a truly ‘dynamic’ strategy to managing COVID-19, specifically by:-

  1. Achieving greater clarity around cyber and data security legislation;
  2. Affording equal opportunities to foreign and domestic firms and improving consultation with FIEs on important decisions;
  3. Adjusting international travel restrictions and border control policies;
  4. Adopting a balanced approach to the enforcement of COVID-19 restrictions.

Initial Media Coverage

Steven Lynch, Managing Director of the British Chamber was interviewed by CNBC and BBC ahead of today’s launch, calling for greater clarity and certainty to restore British business confidence in China.
