Recap | BritCham STEM Racing Challenge Season 2025-26 Final | 2026 China National Finals Open for Registration

9 Mar 2026

On 3rd February 2025, the 2025-26 BritCham Shanghai STEM Racing Challenge Final, co-hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai and STEM Racing, concluded successfully. The Challenge Final took place at Shanghai Concord Bilingual School, Pudong.

The STEM Challenge is one of the world’s largest and most influential youth competitions in science, technology and innovation. Originating from the UK in 2000, it has now reached more than 20,000 schools across over 50 countries.

The Challenge essentially replicates the standard preparation process of a Formula 1racing team. Designed for students aged between 9 and 19, this competition integrates knowledge and practise in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and business management. This invites students to think laterally and provides them with opportunities to test their innovations in real life. Teams composed of 3 to 6 students would take on individual roles, work collaboratively to address various challenges that occur in the race-car developmental process.

The judging panel for the 2025-26 BritCham STEM Racing Challenge Final comprised STEM Racing HKMO to provide their professional evaluations. Competing teams were scored based on multiple criteria, including business plans, presentation skills, pitlane design, and engineering design, aligning with the official judging standards.

5 teams, consisting of more than 30 students, competed in this season’s final competition.

The Challenge Final commenced with a welcome speech given by Dr. Paul Silverwood from Executive Principal, Shanghai Concord Bilingual School Pudong & Stuart Dunn- Executive Director, BritCham Shanghai and other distinguished guests from the British Consulate-General attended the event.

In this season’s race challenge, competing teams were tasked with designing the car body shell from the beginning, including the front wing, rear wing, and side pods, in order to create their miniature F1-style race car. They were also provided with the STEM Racing Air Trace Visualisation System to help them assess the aerodynamic performance of their racing vehicles visually.

Moreover, the participants needed to consider the business and marketing prospects of the F1 racing, which required them to submit a comprehensive business plan including a business portfolio, sponsorship proposal, and budget management ahead of the finale competition. They then pitched their business plans in a formal presentation and conducted pitlane displays to the judges on the day of the Challenge Final.

In the finale showdown of the Grand Prix Racing, the student-built miniature race cars engaged in the highly stimulating, fast-speed races on a dedicated 20-meter track. Team DYNAMOS SENIOR from Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong emerged victorious in the race. They had also secured the position as the Overall Winner of this season’s race challenge.
