On the evening of 26 November, BritCham Shanghai warmly welcomed guests and friends at W Shanghai – The Bund for the St. Andrew’s Ball 2022.
Special thanks must go to – our Corporate Sponsors, ALLELIQUE Skincare, Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong and Puxi, Entertainment Sponsor, naked Group, Beverage sponsors Edrington China (whisky), Ray Fine Wines (red and white wine) and De Halve Maan (beer) – for their generous support to make this event possible.
Starting with the melodious bagpipes and impassioned drum performance, the Ball brought to the audience many authentic Scottish traditions, from Scotland’s cuisine to ‘Address to the Haggis’ performance to festive music and vibrant ceilidh dancing.
This is also an evening we gather to support a good cause. A big thank-you to our guests and many in-kind sponsors for their contribution to raising funds for Xiersen, a local NGO that aims to improve the condition of special education in China. Millions of people have intellectual disabilities (ID) in China. According to a recent report, the employment rate for people with ID was less than 2%. There is also a huge need for special educators in China. Xiersen has set out to address these important social issues and inspire the next generation of special educators.
A total of RMB 48,714 was raised on the night through silent auction and individual donations. Funds raised will be used to support the ‘Special Slices’ project which is an original manga series developed by Xiersen to promote the awareness, acceptance and inclusion of adults with ID.
