Event details

BritCham Shanghai is delighted to invite members to our January Member Briefing. Kicking off the new year, BritCham Shanghai Chair Ray Chisnall and Executive Director James Dunn will introduce the key activities and cooperation opportunities in 2022.

Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for China (HMTC), John Edwards, will share with attendees the recent updates from the UK government.

At the briefing, we are also delighted to invite two guest speakers from Control Risks, Chris Torrens and Zhixing Zhang, to share observations of the key risk trends to watch for and the critical areas of focus in future-proofing China – and global – businesses in 2022. Key topics cover:

  • Top risks for multinational organisations to watch in 2022
  • China-EU and China-UK relations in challenging times
  • Key trends faced by UK companies in the China market in 2022

After two years of uncertainty and lockdowns, 2022 will offer ample opportunities for growth – but red and amber lights continue to flash on the risk register dashboard for business. As geopolitical competition between China and western countries intensifies, issues such as digital sovereignty and ESG threaten to further complicate and disrupt the risk landscape. Against the backdrop of the 20th CPC National Congress, China will continue to focus on socio-economic reform and re-emphasising its long-term political and regulatory priorities.

Businesses need to recalibrate their strategy accordingly to ensure success in the new year – if resilience was one of the defining characteristics of 2021, then adaptability and resourcefulness will be at the core of 2022.

The Member Briefing is also an opportunity for members to get first-hand updates on the Chamber’s key activities in 2022 and get acquainted with Chamber staff of membership, marcoms, committees and events, as well as the Chamber’s Executive Committee members.
