Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
*Due to the current situation surrounding the pandemic, BritCham Shanghai has decided to change this seminar to an online session on ZOOM*
This session is part of BritCham Shanghai’s SDG event series and focuses on SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities.
In 2021, approximately 64.7 per cent of the total population in China lived in cities. The urbanisation rate has increased steadily in China over the last decades.
Cities and metropolitan areas are powerhouses of economic growth – contributing about 60 per cent of global GDP. However, they also account for about 70 per cent of global carbon emissions and over 60 per cent of resource use.
Therefore, to achieve sustainable urban living, it is essential to enhance the inclusiveness and efficiency of the urbanisation process, including expanding public transportation, increasing the efficiency of land use and resource management, promoting rural-urban integration, reducing environmental pressures through infrastructure design and innovative technology, etc.
At this seminar, BritCham Shanghai is delighted to bring together speakers with experiences in urban planning, architecture, and environmental design. They would share their insights and experiences on how to build up more sustainable cities.
