[SDG Series] Clean Water and Sanitation: Why it Matters

Dr Guo, a member of the Steering Committee of the IWA (International Water Association) Digital Water Programme, is the DGM of Three Gorges Smart Water Technology Co. Ltd. With over 18 years of working experience, he has worked as Technical Director of China Water & Environment, ATKINS, a large international engineering consulting company; Operation Director of China Municipal Water, VEOLIA, the largest international environmental service company; DGM of China Office of HR Wallingford, UK Water & Environment research and consulting company. Dr Guo has an extensive experience in water engineering planning, design, operation and technical consultancy. He got his MSc in Hydroinformatics from IHE-Delft, Netherlands and PhD in Hydroinformatics from the University of Exeter, UK.

Moonlight Zhu, Executive Director of MyH2O Water Information Network. She graduated from Pitzer College with an International Relations major and a Media Studies minor. She focuses on law, public welfare, and sustainable development. Moonlight interned at a Category II Centre under UNESCO, and has 6+ years experiences of public relations as well as project management.

At MyH2O Water Information Network, Moonlight is the head of the H2O Solution, a project that delivers solutions to villages facing drinking water challenges in rural China, and has successfully launched the long-term solutions in 12 villages across 6 provinces including Gansu, Yunnan, Sichuan, and Hebei Province. In the past 3 years, more than 10 thousand villagers and children are benefited and gained the access to clean and healthy drinking water. She also leads an online fund-raising campaign that supports 50+ teams to conduct field research and 4 solution implementations. Over 6000 people have joined the campaign.

Huancheng Wang joined Modern Water in 2016. He has been working in the environmental field delivering innovative water monitoring solutions to customers across China. He has served a broad spectrum of clients including government authorities, drinking water facilities, universities and industrial users by providing comprehensive technical support and training. Huancheng holds a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Imperial College, London.

Michael is an Associate of Arup with more than 20 years of experience in a variety of water design and management projects across the water cycle including flood protection, water supply, drainage and sewerage schemes in the US, UK, mainland China and Hong Kong.

He is actively involved in Climate Chang and Water Environmental Research in China and internationally, delivering appropriate, functional and environmentally friendly sustainable infrastructures. These include the climate change resilient framework for Ningbo, the climate change resilience of water infrastructure in Wuhan, Shanghai Climate change rainfall impact study, and the risk assessment and climate change adaption tool for the Yangtze River Delta.

He has worked closely with Arup’s London, San Francisco and New York teams on a wide range of watershed restoration and sustainable blue and green infrastructure design. Key projects include the water engineering planning for Xiong’an boot area, Shanghai urban drainage masterplanning, upper Qinhuai River watershed restoration masterplanning and detail design, Shanghai Expo UBPA redevelopment, Beijing Yongding River area storm runoff management, and Chengdu New Airport city infrastructure masterplanning.

Linian Li is managing and developing Modern Water’s business in China and formulating company‘s strategy. She has double master’s degrees, MBA in Natural Resources Energy & Environment from University of Alberta, Canada and Master in Management, Grande Ecole Programme from EDHEC Business School, France. An executive with more than ten years of management experience in sales, marketing, business development, project management, corporate strategy, personnel, P&L and general management in international companies, including JCDecaux, GM Europe GmbH, Carat, Rouse & Co., International. And a self-motivated strategic thinker with determination and effective leadership skills possesses extensive real-life experience in the business and social cultures of Asia, Europe and North America. Linian got the Women Leadership Awards—Innovator of the Year in 2021.
