Shanghai, 23 April 2026 — BritCham Shanghai has announced the finalists across eight awards for its 2026 Sustainability & Innovation Awards at an event co-hosted with Shanghai Climate Week.
Now in its fourth year, the applicant pool spans more than 20 cities across China and encompasses organisations headquartered in 12 countries and regions. Around 40% of submissions came from international companies operating in China, with the remaining 60% from domestic businesses and organisations, reflecting broad engagement across the business community.
A total of 43 businesses, organisations and individuals have been shortlisted for the first round of judging, selected from 113 applications. These finalists represent more than 30 industry sectors, including new energy, new materials, energy efficiency, education and beyond.
New award categories have been introduced this year to reflect the rapid evolution of sustainability and technological innovation, alongside the increasing role of Chinese companies in driving sustainable practices through outbound investment, including Green Tech & Digital Innovation, Climate Action, and Outbound Investment. The Awards recognise emerging ideas, technologies, solutions and leadership across industries, with the aim of accelerating sustainable development and driving progress across sectors.
In his remarks, Stuart Dunn, Executive Director of BritCham Shanghai, highlighted the evolving role of sustainability in business: “Sustainability is no longer a separate track or a ‘nice-to-have’. It is now part of how modern business works. And for many companies, it is essential for long-term success.” Stuart also highlighted the Chamber’s work in supporting members through platforms such as its Sustainability Committee, which facilitates peer-to-peer exchange and practical learning.
Dr Lu Jianzhong, Chair of the Awards, noted the high standard of entries: “What stood out to us was not only the level of innovation, but also the practicality of the solutions — real efforts to make sustainability work in day-to-day operations. The difference between many of the applications was very close. That, in itself, is a very positive signal of how far the broader community has come.”
The announcement was made at Eastern Dawning: Sustainability Night, a closed-door gathering of senior business leaders, representatives from international organisations and public sector, sustainability practitioners and partners, reflecting a growing commitment to collaborative action on sustainability.
Following the announcement, all finalists will move into the next stage of assessment, including in-depth online interviews with the judging panels. An online public voting process will also open, inviting wider community engagement and enhancing visibility for the shortlisted initiatives.
The Awards will culminate in the Sustainability & Innovation Summit and Awards Ceremony on 23 June 2026 in Shanghai, bringing together finalists, judges, partners and business leaders to exchange insights, showcase best practices and celebrate the winners.
This year’s Awards has also received strong support from BritCham Shanghai’s member community, including the University of Nottingham Ningbo China and ERM, as well as organisation partners the New Zealand Business Roundtable in China, and CanCham. Many of these organisations are not only at the forefront of sustainability, but are also actively driving progress across their respective industries.
