On 11 February, the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai visited Hangzhou and expanded its community with stakeholders from local government departments, trade promotion councils and commercial organisations.
At the beginning of the Year of the Snake, the BritCham Shanghai delegation, represented by Executive Director Stuart Dunn, Executive Committee Member Gabriel Wong, Zhejiang Ambassador and Office Manager Mona Wang, along with Consul & Head of East China Outreach from British Consulate General Shanghai Joshua Howey, and member company representatives Shane Sang from PwC China, David Foster from University of Nottingham Ningbo, hosted a reception lunch in Hangzhou to build and strengthen the Chamber’s relationship with local government departments from Zhejiang Science & Technology Department, Zhejiang Foreign Experts Bureau, CCPIT Zhejiang, Zhejiang FDI, Gongshu District and Qiantang District. Stuart Dunn introduced BritCham Shanghai’s major achievements in 2024, including the Zhejiang Office in Gongshu District. Attendees exchanged ideas on each organisation’s roles and responsibilities while sharing plans for 2025.
In the afternoon, the BritCham Shanghai delegation had the pleasure of meeting with Chairman Mr. Chen Jianzhong and his colleagues from China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Zhejiang Provincial Committee (CCPIT Zhejiang). Stuart Dunn introduced BritCham’s structure, purpose and mission, as well as its new Zhejiang Office in Gongshu District, while discussing potential areas of collaboration. All delegation members introduced their roles in the Chamber, their respective organisations, and expectations of further cooperation with CCPIT Zhejiang.
Mr. Chen Jianzhong warmly welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of economic and trade status of Zhejiang, as well as the responsibilities of CCPIT Zhejiang and China Chamber of International Commerce Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce (CCOIC Zhejiang). Mr. Chen emphasized that UK business organisations are close partners of CCPIT Zhejiang, with a series of business activities having been conducted in the past. He expressed hope that BritCham Shanghai and CCPIT Zhejiang would enhance communication in trade, cultural and education.
BritCham Shanghai also visited Zhejiang Commercial Human Resources Exchange & Service Center Company to explore opportunities in their activities and focus areas for 2025.
