BritCham Shanghai Visits Ningbo

On Wednesday, 2 April, the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai visited Ningbo, connecting with stakeholders from local government departments and strengthening the connection among its members in Ningbo.

This BritCham Shanghai delegation was led by Executive Committee Member Gabriel Wong and Executive Director Stuart Dunn, joined by Zhejiang Ambassador and Office Manager Mona Wang, together with leaders from BritCham Zhejiang Committee and members in Ningbo, including Zhejiang Committee Chair and PwC Tax Partner Shane Sang, Zhejiang Committee Vice Chair and Director of Business Development Office from University of Nottingham Ningbo David Foster and their colleagues.

In the morning, BritCham delegation had a fruitful dialogue with Ningbo Investment Promotion Bureau officials. The meeting, attended by Party Secretary Xiubei Ye and his colleagues, focused on introducing both organisations, discussing UK & Ningbo Industry match and potential for cooperation between BritCham members and local companies.

After that, the delegation visited China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Ningbo Committee (CCPIT Ningbo), met with their Chairman Weiguo Yan and his colleagues. Both parties exchanged insights on their respective mandates, history of cooperation between Ningbo and UK, with particular emphasis on facilitating collaboration on knowledge sharing and outbound investment events between BritCham and CCPIT Ningbo/CCOIC Ningbo.

In the afternoon, BritCham delegation conducted three visits to two members and one industry park. The first visit was to Ningbo Silent Technology and met with its General Manager Yikai Shao and Director of Engineering Ryan Delacourt to learn about their specific capability in the whole process of producing racing cars from design, fabrication to assembly.

The second visit was to BritCham platinum member – the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), where the delegation met with Chief Financial and Planning Officer Thomas Murphy, Associate Professor in Finance Xiaogang Bi, Director of Business Development Office David Foster and his team during campus tour, a meeting to know priorities of UNNC and its different departments such as Nottingham University Business School and Business Development Office, and further discussion on the collaboration of coming events in Ningbo between BritCham and UNNC.

BritCham delegation also had a quick visit to Ningbo Intelligent Manufacturing Park which hosts over 170 enterprises with a 95% occupancy rate mainly in intelligent manufacturing and optoelectronics.

This series of engagements highlighted BritCham Shanghai’s commitment to deepening ties between BritCham members and Ningbo’s vibrant economic landscape, setting the stage for concrete collaborations across industry, trade, and academia.
