On 9 April 2025, BritCham Shanghai welcomed Matt Burney, CMG, British Consul-General in Shanghai, for a visit to its Zhejiang Office in Gongshu District, Hangzhou. The occasion also marked the successful hosting of an education roundtable entitled “Opportunities and Challenges for UK Education in Zhejiang.”
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
BritCham Shanghai Zhejiang Office facilitated a meeting between the British Consul-General and Mr Ao Yuxin, Deputy Secretary of the Gongshu District Committee, to discuss collaborative opportunities. The session was attended by Stuart Dunn, Executive Director of BritCham Shanghai; Shi Tiantian, Standing Committee Member of the Gongshu District Committee; and representatives from key local departments, including the S&T Bureau, District Government Office, Investment Promotion Bureau, Grand Canal Digital Intelligence Future City, and Hangzhou International Talent Entrepreneurship and Innovation Park.

Education Roundtable: Insights and Collaboration
Following the meeting, a roundtable was hosted to explore the evolving landscape of UK education partnerships in Zhejiang. Stuart Dunn and Matt Burney, CMG delivered opening remarks, emphasising the importance of cross-border educational exchange. Attendees included Catherine Sinclair-Jones, Director of East China at the British Council, alongside representatives from seven Zhejiang-based institutions spanning K-12 education, higher education, and private sector groups.
