On 3 June 2026, BritCham Shanghai held an Education Roundtable at its Zhejiang Office in Hangzhou, focusing on engaging with international students. The event brought together representatives from UK higher education institutions, international schools, education agencies, and industry partners to share insights into changes in the Chinese student market.

The session opened with welcome remarks from Stuart Dunn, Executive Director of BritCham Shanghai, who highlighted the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to providing a collaborative platform for education stakeholders to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and explore new opportunities within the UK-China education sector.

The roundtable then featured a keynote market update delivered by Josh Gabriel, Senior Education Manager at the British Council, who shared the latest market observations, TNE trends and insights into the changing landscape of international education. His presentation provided valuable context for the discussions that followed and highlighted emerging opportunities and challenges facing UK institutions engaging with Chinese students.

Represented organisations included:

Key discussion topics included changing student and parent expectations, the increasing importance of employability and career development, evolving recruitment strategies, and the growing need for more personalised, holistic support throughout the student journey. Participants also shared practical experiences and market observations, creating a lively and engaging dialogue across different parts of the education ecosystem.
