On 26 and 27 March, the spirit of innovation and high-speed precision took centre stage at the STEM Racing China Tournament 2026. The competition was co-hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai (BritCham SH) and STEM Racing Hong Kong & Macau (YONDAR) and took place at Shanghai Concord Bilingual School in Pudong.
As one of the world’s most influential youth competitions in science and technology, STEM Racing brought together some of the brightest young minds to navigate the complex world of professional motor sport. Talented student racing teams from across the country attended the Tournament to showcase their designs, race their cars, and present their marketing strategies. In essence, the competition offered invaluable opportunities for young innovators, many of whom may one day shape the future of motorsport and engineering—to hone their skills and bring their ideas to life.

The judging panel comprised experts from industry and academia, including representatives from universities, international schools, and multinational automotive companies. A total of 12 teams from Beijing, Shanghai, Macau, Zhejiang, and beyond competed at Development or Professional level.
The two-day tournament began with a warm welcome from Dr Paul Silverwood, Executive Principal of Shanghai Concord Bilingual School, Pudong. Following the opening ceremony, competing teams were immediately thrust into the pressure of setting up their Pit Displays, with a strict one-hour time limit to transform their designated spaces into professional exhibition stands.
The afternoon of 26 March focused on the rigorous judging sessions. Teams were evaluated across three criteria: Verbal Presentations, Design & Engineering Portfolios, and Pit Displays. This required students to think laterally and demonstrate how they integrated science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and business management into their projects. Meanwhile, on the racing track, the Professional and Development level races began, featuring miniature F1-style cars designed from scratch by the students.
The intensity of the competition shifted to a gear on 27 March. Following the final racing and judging sessions, the atmosphere became electric with the announcement of the knockout race seeding.

The afternoon was a blur of speed and strategy as teams faced off in the quarterfinals and semi-finals. In a display of true engineering excellence, these student-built F1 cars took part in thrilling high-speed races. The racing reached its peak during the final showdown.
The tournament concluded with a celebratory awards ceremony, honouring the hard work, creativity, and dedication of all participating teams. Three places at the STEM Racing 2026 World Final, which will take place in Singapore in October, were secured as a result of the tournament.
