Recap | Healthcare Industry Roundtable in Hangzhou Connects Experts and Explores New Opportunities

On 29 July, 2025, BritCham Shanghai successfully hosted the “Trends and Investment Opportunities in the Healthcare Industry” roundtable at Hangzhou Medterials. The forum brought together professionals from medical equipment, pharmacy, hospital, higher education, legal and financial sectors to exchange insights on healthcare industry as well as to explore collaborative opportunities and future development directions for BritCham members and friends in China market and overseas market.

The event commenced with welcome remarks by Stuart Dunn, Executive Director of BritCham Shanghai. Stuart emphasised the significance of deepening UK-China collaboration in the healthcare sector against the backdrop of growing global health demands, highlighting how technological innovation and policy support are driving robust industry growth. Subsequently, led by Shuchuan Sheng, General Manager of Hangzhou Medterials Ltd., attendees toured the company’s R&D facilities and production space, gaining firsthand insight into the technological applications of medical equipment used by this start-up company.

Factory tour

Jing Li, Head of Healthcare, British Consulate General Shanghai, Department for Business and Trades, delivered a keynote speech. She provided a detailed overview of the current state and unique strengths of the UK’s healthcare industry. Jing particularly noted that the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) is implementing a ten-year healthcare plan focusing on digital transformation and shared some key initiatives.

Karen Huang, Senior Outreach Officer-Zhejiang, FCDO shared her perspectives on collaboration opportunities between Zhejiang and the UK. Karen called for enhanced cooperation in government policy alignment and corporate technological exchanges to explore further possibilities.

During the subsequent roundtable discussion, participants engaged in lively debates on topics such as legal challenges in pharmaceutical product promotion, regional industry development experiences, and cross-sector collaboration models.
