On the evening of 23 April, BritCham Shanghai warmly welcomed a full house of guests to embrace the spirit of England’s most cherished hero on St. George’s Day and to honour the essence of English culture and history.

Throughout the night, we paid homage to the stories that have inspired countless generations and delved into the myriad aspects that make English culture vibrant and enduring.
Following the opening remarks by Stuart Dunn, Executive Director of BritCham Shanghai, William Trayford, Area Manager of deVere Group China, also shared his festival greetings to all guests, and introduced the company’s recent initiatives.
To recap the rich culture and legacy surrounding St. George’s Day, attendees enjoyed a short video narrating The Story of St. George.
St. George, an early Christian martyr, became an ideal of martial valour and selflessness during the Middle Ages. He is revered as the patron saint of England and Georgia and is venerated as one of the 14 Auxiliary Saints.

As the evening progressed, guests had the pleasure of indulging in a British Whisky Tasting led by Phil Zhang, Brand Ambassador of English Whisky.
The celebration continued with a stirring recitation of English poems, followed by a spirited rendition of Jerusalem.
