BritCham Shanghai AE&M members meet with CEI

On 15 December, BritCham Shanghai and its Advanced Engineering & Manufacturing (AE&M) Committee met with the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization (CEI).

Mr Rong Zhiqin, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, greeted James Dunn, the Chamber’s Executive Director, Alex Roberts, the Chamber‘s Advocacy Lead, Xiaolu Pan, Vice-Chair of the Chamber’s AE&M committee and representatives of member companies.

Mr Rong expressed his gratitude to BritCham Shanghai for its persistent efforts and positive contribution in promoting the UK-China business collaboration, as well as its active support for Shanghai’s economic and social development.

James Dunn introduced the Chamber and its three key value streams – Advocacy, Knowledge and Community. Chamber Executive Committee member Alex Roberts presented the key findings from the newly launched British Business in China: Sentiment Survey 2021-2022, and the key challenges facing British businesses in the China market.

On behalf of the Chamber’s AE&M committee, Xiaolu raised a few key topics of interest to members in the sector, including industrial policies, green and low-carbon, digital economy and etc. Member companies also had the opportunities to exchange views and raise questions.

Representatives from related divisions of CEI have advised on the topics and questions. Mr Wei Bingwu, Director of Shanghai SME Development Service Centre, made an introduction of the Shanghai Enterprise Service Cloud (www.ssme.sh.gov.cn) and welcome BritCham Shanghai members to visit the centre and utilise the Service Cloud.

The Chamber will strengthen dialogue with CEI and work together to deepen cooperation and promote the sustainable development of British businesses in Shanghai.

Representatives from the Divisions of Foreign Economy, Energy Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization, Economic Operation, Informationization Promotion, and the Small and Medium Enterprise Office & Service Center attended the meeting.

Members from the following companies attended the meeting: Aston Martin, Andrew Starforth, bp, ERM, Johnson Matthey, Modern Water, PwC, SpiraxSarco and Weir China.
